Addressing the needs of both seniors and caregivers, the National Association of Chain Drug Stores and Drug Store News will co-host the Senior Health & Family Caregiver Expo, May 13-14 at the convention center in Washington, D.C.
The event is designed to help educate seniors and their caregivers about new products and treatments, as well as the importance of maintaining compliance and persistence with prescribed drug regimens. It is estimated that there are 44.4 million American caregivers in the U.S. Recent surveys show that caregivers play an important role in determining prescription drug choices and adherence to the treatment regimens of those in their care.
The expo also will serve as a showcase for enhancing the value of community pharmacy, according to Drug Store News, which is published by Lebhar-Friedman, based in New York. NACDS members include such drug chains as Rite Aid, Walgreens and CVS.
Initial pharma sponsors include Janssen, Pfizer Consumer Health, Boehringer Ingelheim, AstraZeneca and Novo Nordisk. The organizers expect between 15,000 and 20,000 consumers to attend the event, which is free.
The participating pharmaceutical exhibitors with sales staff will be requested to distribute flyers to physician offices and medical facilities to help promote the expo.
