Open-access research project F1000 has launched a program in which submissions are immediately published following what the project’s director of new product development, Dr. Rebecca Lawrence, called an “initial sanity check.” Lawrence said the publishing operation will not check for scientific accuracy. The process of verifying accuracy will be open and occur after publication.
According to Lawrence, this process is similar to that carried out by the Public Library of Science, which does initial checks before publishing. The project announcement said it is a novel approach, because it will publish preliminary data sets and negative results.
