The White House appears to have selected FDA acting commissioner Lester Crawford as its choice to fill the position on a permanent basis, The Pink Sheet reported this week.
News of the selection came after Crawford reportedly met with President Bush on Jan. 27 – a move considered by Beltway insiders as an indication that a decision has been made and an announcement could come at any time.
Crawford has been acting commissioner since Mark McClellan left the FDA to take the over the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services in March.
If Crawford is the nominee, he would become the first to move up from the acting role to fully confirmed position.
