Biotechnology company Flagship Pioneering has hired Amy Lyons as senior director of communications.

Lyons started in the newly created role on June 10, reporting to Laura Kline, SVP and partner for corporate communications and social impact. Lyons is leading external communications for Flagship Pioneering’s Pioneering Intelligence and Pioneering Medicines business units, she said. 

Since 2020, Lyons has served as VP of corporate communications at engineering biology company Sherlock Biosciences, where she oversaw internal and external comms, social media and creative with a focus on building brand awareness.

The company has not named a replacement for Lyons, she said. A Sherlock spokesperson could not be reached for comment. 

Lyons also spent almost two decades at Shift Communications, most recently as managing partner.

She was named one of PRWeek’s Women of Distinction in 2016

Flagship Pioneering builds platform companies with the potential for multiple products that “transform human health or sustainability,” according to a company statement. Since its launch in 2000, Flagship has originated and fostered more than 100 scientific ventures, resulting in more than $70 billion in aggregate value. Flagship has deployed more than $3.7 billion in capital toward the founding and growth of companies alongside more than $28 billion in follow-on investments from other institutions. 

Flagship’s ecosystem comprises over 40 companies, including Denali Therapeutics, Foghorn Therapeutics, Generate:Biomedicines, Omega Therapeutics and Sana Biotechnology.
