Gamifying memory may not be all it’s touted to be. The New York Times reports that although the internet and handhelds are awash in games that purport to improve memory and stave off the forgetfulness associated with aging, the data on hand is not enough to indicate that playtime converts to better information retention.

The article notes that games don’t include an inherent risk, but that “consumers should know that the scientific jury is still out on whether they are really boosting brain health or just paying hundreds of dollars to get better at a game.”
