Drug regulators are seeking a global approach. Regulatory Focus reports that plans for a “new regulatory supergroup” have been in the works for some time, but that FDA Commissioner Margaret Hamburg announced the organization this week in London at the Medicines and Healthcare Product Respiratory Agency’s Annual Lecture.

RF says Hamburg used the FDA’s global needs as context—an issue she also brought up when recapping her visit to India and the need for global partnerships—and urged that regulators work together and draw on each other’s resources for support.

“What we really need for the future is a public health safety net for consumers around the world that is created, supported and maintained by a global alliance of regulators,” she said.
