GlaxoSmithKline will extend its strategic collaboration with Aspen, a pharmaceutical manufacturer, through the acquisition of a 16% shareholding in the company. In return, Aspen received the right to distribute GSK products in South Africa. Aspen is the largest generics manufacturer in the southern hemisphere, according to the company’s website.
Sanofi-Aventis announced that it will acquire commercial rights to Oforta, a leukemia treatment manufactured by Antisoma, for $60 million, with further payments totaling $5 million. Antisoma is a biotech based in London and Boston.
