Democrats wouldn’t be in power more than four days before legislating price controls on pharmaceuticals, according to House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi, the presumptive Speaker of the House should the Democrats win a majority of seats next month. No. 5 on Pelosi’s agenda for her first 100 hours as speaker, which she shared with The Washington Post: “Allow the government to negotiate directly with the pharmaceutical companies for lower drug prices for Medicare patients.” Getting ugly with Big Pharma isn’t the highest priority on the San Francisco representative’s ambitious to-do list, placing below cutting interest rates on student loans (No. 4), raising the minimum wage (No. 3), “Enacting all the recommendations made by the commission that investigated the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001” (No. 2) and cracking down on K Street (No. 1).  Though the Democrats’ chances of gaining 15 seats to control the House of Representatives are far from certain, it’s looking good for them–particularly in the wake of the congressional page scandal.
