A new online health community—FacetoFace Health— is pairing patients with other patients based on similar conditions and medications.
The company launched on April 7, and allows users to upload their medical histories, drug regimens, and the medical facilities they’ve visited—but it discourages the use of real names. “For privacy and security reasons, users identify themselves via screen names,” according to a company release.
After inputting health information, users can perform a “health match,” which matches them with users of a similar condition or taking the same drug. By matching users one-on-one with each other, patients won’t have to post a question on a message board and wait for someone to reply. “Our goal is to humanize healthcare,” said Nowell Outlaw, FacetoFace Health president and CEO, in the statement.
The site also connects relevant products or services to the consumer based on information in their health profile via pay-per-click advertisements. Ads on the site can include an image, message, link, and are placed according to the “HealthMatch Algorithm.”
