ManufacturersColumbia Laboratories has elected Robert Mills as CEO. Mills joined Columbia in May 2001 as SVP, operations. He was named COO in September 2003 and was appointed president in January 2006, at which time he was also elected to the company’s board of directors. Previously, Mills served as SVP, manufacturing operations, at Watson Pharmaceuticals. During his 30-year career in the pharmaceutical industry, he also served as VP, operations, at Alpharma and held various positions with Aventis.West Coast Biologicals has elected Mark Backer CEO. Backer began working in the biotech industry in 1978, when he was an early employee of Genentech, and initiated its pilot manufacturing operations. He also held development and operations positions of increasing responsibility with Eli Lilly, Idec Pharmaceuticals, Systemix and Aviron (now MedImmune Vaccines). Former Dendrite VP Paul Skinner has left to join Authentidate Holding Corp. as VP of sales.
