Health communications group Calcium+Company named Bruno Brasileiro as executive creative director for its flagship advertising division Calcium on Tuesday.

Brasileiro brings more than two decades of industry experience to Calcium, a 2023 MM+M Agency 100 honoree, including his work across numerous therapeutic areas with consumer and pharma clients.

In his most recent role, he served as executive creative director at Havas Village X, another 2023 MM+M Agency 100 honoree.

He also had prior leadership stints at CDM New York, Area 23, another 2023 MM+M Agency 100 honoree, and TBWA/Worldwide.

In the new role, Brasileiro will report to Calcium’s MD Nicole Torrillo. Brasileiro will be tasked with helming the creative direction of an agency that saw its revenue drop 11% to $44.5 million, according to the 2023 MM+M Agency 100 revenue chart.

“Health communications have the potential to change lives and make an impact on real people,” Brasileiro said in a statement. “With entrepreneurial agility, we want to fulfill this potential, using our full creative powers to reach patients and partner with those developing the innovative treatments needed. I am excited to lead our talented team of creatives under the Calcium division.”

Calcium+Company’s MP and group president Greg Lewis welcomed the addition of Brasileiro to the organization’s leadership team in a press release.

“Calcium has, from its beginnings, been passionately committed to creative and strategic excellence. This commitment will only grow with talented new leaders like Bruno joining the agency,” he stated.

Calcium+Company chairman of the board and founder Steven Michaelson, who was inducted into the Medical Advertising Hall of Fame last week, called Brasileiro a key factor in the agency’s succession planning.

“Creativity serves as the vital pulse of every thriving agency,” Michaelson said in a statement. “As I transitioned into retirement, it was extremely important to me that we bring in someone with the right background and experience to take Calcium to new creative heights.”

Brasileiro’s appointment comes just over a year after Calcium announced the launch of Calcium+Company in order to create an overarching structure to house its diversified divisions.

Throughout last year, the agency was busy building out various offerings and making key personnel decisions.

Following the launch of Calcium+Company, there was the debut of PRotein, a full-service health and wellness PR division, as well as Amino, an oncology marketing division.

Additionally, Michaelson announced his retirement in March after a lengthy career in the medical marketing space.

In June, the company purchased CSG Health Group, a scientific communications agency focusing on educational content and strategies for healthcare professionals. Months later, Calcium+Company launched Calcium+Company LATAM, a creative and strategic hub based in Mexico City.
