Condom brand Skyn has a history of reframing characteristics typically associated with sex, and its latest campaign created by Sid Lee Paris is no different.
Launched worldwide, “Explore Uncensored Pleasures” had Ad Nut’s eyes squeezed shut and Ad Nut’s brain saying a prayer that this squirrel’s boss wouldn’t walk by. (Ad Nut is part of the working squirrel community.)
The ad, which focuses on “the exploration of pleasure,” showcases Skyn’s wide suite of products by placing them over the graphic element constantly associated with censorship: the rectangle while partners do, you know. (Don’t make Ad Nut say it.)
While according to the press release, the campaign, produced by Hamlet TV, isn’t intended to be pornographic, it’s certainly toeing the line, according to this squirrel.
The ad only meant to pique human interest through a succession of sensual (extra sensual) scenes and arouse curiosity (as well as maybe other things). Skyn aimed to capitalize on the fact that people and other ilk want to see what’s behind the blurred rectangle.
Perhaps Skyn was right. Even Ad Nut must admit the intrigue.
X-rated material aside, Ad Nut liked this campaign because hijacking the censorship rectangle was an original way for Skyn to show off its range of condoms, lubes and toys.
But the ad is certainly NSFW. And while Ad Nut can admire its creativity, watching the film felt like an intrusion.
