FlipMD, a subsidiary of GoodRx, has debuted FlipMD Hire, a new recruiting platform. It’s designed to bring aspects of the gig economy to physicians by creating a forum in which healthcare companies can post full- or part-time clinical and non-clinical positions.

FlipMD hopes to appeal to a range of businesses, including biotech and pharmaceutical companies and medical startups seeking physician advisers. To that end, Hire has established a marketplace based on its database of practicing physicians. It showcases projects ranging from advisory work to long-term consulting.

Citing the growing demand among organizations for medical expertise and clinical insight, coupled with the rise in burnout among the medical community, FlipMD CEO Lauren Hanson said Hire will leverage the organization’s network to promote flexible work opportunities.

Hire utilizes a flat rate of $25,000 per placement — well below the industry average for staffing recruitment fees, according to Hanson.

“What we’re doing is expanding from the foundational area into the physician staffing world by using a lot of what we already know from the gig economy,” she said.

As opposed to recruitment tools engineered by Upwork and LinkedIn, Hanson said FlipMD Hire is able to forge connections within the often small and insular world of physicians with the right access points to new opportunities.

She added that the COVID-19 pandemic emphasized the importance of healthcare professionals having more sustainable career options, especially amid the trauma and subsequent mental fatigue experienced by frontline workers.

Hanson said FlipMD is trying to “tactfully nudge” physicians to embrace a hybrid career where they can do their traditional clinical work while simultaneously benefiting from contributing to other organizations.

“We want to do this in a way where we can take on anything from one-hour projects to long-term staffing and everything in between,” she said. “We want to be a collaborative player.”
