Calcium+Company hired Nicole Torrillo Smith as managing director of Calcium, the organization’s lead advertising unit, on Thursday.

Torrillo Smith brings more than 27 years of experience to the role, including leadership stints across a variety of disease states at several pharmaceutical companies. In her most recent post, she served as EVP, head of health accounts at advertising giant BBDO Worldwide.

Now, she will bring her leadership style and industry experience to a 2023 MM+M Agency 100 honoree.

“This is an incredible opportunity that I am thrilled to take on in partnership with the entire Calcium team,” she said in a statement. “I’m excited to build on this exceptional foundation—propelling further growth by leveraging the diverse divisions and offerings within Calcium+Company.”

In this position, Torrillo Smith will report directly to Calcium+Company group president Greg Lewis.

“Nicole has an extensive depth of experience and impact across consumer and pharmaceutical industries, making her a perfect fit for driving the next phase of growth and innovation at Calcium,” Lewis stated.

Calcium+Company announced the news of Torrillo Smith’s hiring weeks after launching Calcium+Company LATAM, a creative and strategic hub based in Mexico City.

Led by managing partner Luigi Cardone, the LATAM office will bring together the U.S.-based team with regional experts and content designers to support client needs in the area as well as worldwide.

Calcium+Company has had a busy year since debuting its new organizational structure in January.

As part of that move, the firm unveiled PRotein, a full-service health and wellness PR division. Shortly thereafter, the company also introduced Amino, an oncology marketing division.

In March, Calcium founder Steven Michaelson retired following a lengthy career in medical marketing. Prior to Calcium, Michaelson founded Wishbone in 1998 and worked at several prominent firms like Robert A. Becker, Harrison and Star, and DraftFCB as well as his time as chairman of the Medical Advertising Hall of Fame.

In June, Calcium+Company also acquired CSG Health Group, a scientific communications agency focusing on educational content and strategies for healthcare professionals, which eventually contributed to its decision to open up a Mexico-based hub.
