Patients For Affordable Drugs announced Merith Basey, MSc will serve as executive director Monday morning.

In addition to leading Patients For Affordable Drugs, Basey will oversee its sister organization Patients For Affordable Drugs Now.

“I believe that no one should be poor because they are sick or be sick because they are poor,” Basey said in a statement. “This new position enables me to continue my lifelong work in support of that long held belief.”

The organization named Basey as its leader following a months-long search. Basey served as executive director of Universities Allied for Essential Medicines and launched the Free the Vaccine campaign in conjunction with the Center for Artistic Activism.
