The Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA) today launched a Web site highlighting the dangers of importing drugs from foreign countries for U.S. consumers and patients. The Web address is
“This site will help people understand the wide scope and depth of information that demonstrates importing prescription drugs outside of the FDA delivery system puts patients at risk. It also points patients to safe, legal alternatives to importation if they need help with their prescription drugs,” said PhRMA president and chief executive Billy Tauzin in a statement.
Content at the Web site includes selected news articles on re-importation, information on ways consumers can identify counterfeit or tampered drugs, and alternatives to re-importation, including participation in the PhRMA-sponsored Partnership for Prescription Assistance program.
The Web site also offers information from a report released in April by former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani addressing the safety and security risks of drug re-importation.
