The FCB Health network leads the pack in finalists for the 2016 MM&M Awards, with flagship agency FCB Health garnering 12 nods and its sister shop Area 23 boasting another 12

The MM&M Awards honor the best in healthcare marketing, communications, and media, as well as the people and agencies behind the work. Categories range from industry-leading multichannel campaigns and the Best Branded Websites for Healthcare Professionals to the Industry Marketer of the Year.

The winners will be announced Thursday, October 6, at a black-tie dinner at Cipriani Wall Street in Manhattan. More than 800 people attended last year’s awards dinner.

The finalists, announced today, include Blood Equality, a campaign developed by Interpublic Group’s FCB Health for the Gay Men’s Health Crisis; Toe Tucker, by the same agency for PharmaDerm; and a campaign called A Thousand Words, which was created by sibling Area 23.

Another agency standout, WPP’s Ogilvy CommonHealth Worldwide, received eight nods. Six were for campaigns — like Pfizer Consumer Healthcare’s Sick Just Got Real, entered in the Best Consumer Print category. Two more came for Young Marketer of the Year and Large Agency of the Year.

One of the most closely watched categories is Best Multichannel Campaign, for large product size. The nominees are: CDM New York and Valeant Pharmaceuticals for Gut Guy, a campaign for Xifaxan, a treatment for patients with irritable bowel syndrome with diarrhea; Evoke Health New York and Celgene for SHOWING, a multichannel campaign for plaque psoriasis therapy Otezla; The Silent Era, a campaign developed by Area 23 for Bayer; Leo Burnett’s campaign for UnitedHealthcare, and the Real Expressions campaign, developed by Saatchi & Saatchi Health for Allergan.

New categories in 2016 are Best Digital Initiative for Non-Consumers; Best Film/Video; and Most Daring Campaign.

The finalists survived a gantlet of two rounds of judging performed by about 125 healthcare marketers from both the client and agency sides. The first group of judges worked online to narrow the entries to the best 10 in each of the 31 categories. In June a separate group of judges attended a daylong live judging event in Manhattan to select the finalists.
