Manuel and Patricia Oliver lost their son, Joaquin, in the Marjory Stoneman Douglas school shooting. But Change the Ref, their nonprofit, doesn’t just honor his memory. Hinging on the insight that 93% of the U.S. believes gun laws must change, the effort turns ineffective social media posts into handwritten letters, each rendered in Joaquin’s handwriting. With 1 million impressions per day, it has so far generated nearly 20,000 letters to Congress.
