The American Medical Association named James Madara EVP and CEO. Dr. Madara replaces CEO Dr. Michael Maves, who is retiring. He brings a great deal of experience in executive roles at the University of Chicago, where he was dean of the Pritzker School of Medicine and then CEO of the University of Chicago Medical Center. He left that post two years ago amid controversy over a policy redirecting patients from the poverty-stricken South Side communities neighboring the school to community hospitals and clinics rather than the Medical Center’s ER, according to The Chicago Tribune. AMA membership, the paper noted, is down to 215,000 doctors, less than a third of all practicing physicians in the US.

Worldwide Clinical Trials namedGerald Messerschmidt, MD VP, oncology medical affairs. Messerschmidt joins the company from Talon Therapeutics, where he co-led development of Marqibo, and he previously held senior posts in oncology at Onyx Pharmaceuticals and Icon Clinical Research.
