Jay Carter’s career as an innovator in pharmaceutical advertising began close to home, as a sales rep for small pharmaceutical Pennwalt Laboratories with a territory including his hometown. In the three-plus decades since, he has built a noteworthy record of achievement at AbelsonTaylor, working on some of the most iconic campaigns in medical advertising history, including the Hytrin Balloon campaign and Prevacid Tummy launch. Carter has held several leadership positions within the agency, currently serving as EVP, chief strategy officer.
In 2018, Carter received the Distinguished Alumni Lifetime Achievement Award from the University of Michigan College of Pharmacy, with recognition for his professional achievements in healthcare advertising, expansion of career opportunities for pharmacists and commitment to mentoring future leaders. Looking to his own future, Carter said, “The most exciting stuff happens in the ninth inning … I can’t wait to see what’s next.”
