As CEO and founder of Swoop and IPM.ai, both part of Real Chemistry, Ron Elwell has built a reputation among colleagues as having a savant’s eye for recognizing opportunities. Both companies use machine learning (ML), artificial intelligence (AI) and real-world data to solve unmet needs for life science companies. Recognizing the shortcomings of conventional DTC marketing using generic demographic data, Elwell hypothesized that deploying ML/AI with real-world and social determinants of health data could accurately predict patients likely to have a disease. He founded Swoop in 2010 to empower pharmaceutical companies to more efficiently educate these patients about diagnosis/treatment options and engage them in their healthcare.

Elwell makes both Swoop’s and IPM.ai’s technologies available pro bono to address specific health problems. Recently, he contributed his services for an NGO focused on substance use and addiction to identify people with opioid use disorder (OUD) and direct them to resources for addiction support.
