As a senior medical director at Synchrony, Janel Torsiello leads strategic and tactical medical communications initiatives, creating education and marketing communications content. In the role, she provides direct oversight and training to the medical department, in addition to managing a team of medical directors and writers.

Since joining the company, she has made a number of lasting contributions. For example, Torsiello was instrumental in the publication of the first real-world study on the use of Narcan, a nasal spray used to treat narcotic overdoses, by community health professionals. As a direct result of this research, Narcan was made widely available for the treatment of known or suspected overdoses.

Torsiello also played an integral role in communicating advances in the understanding of a potential mechanism for irritable bowel syndrome with diarrhea, a gastrointestinal disorder that affects nearly 10% of the U.S. population.

Torsiello got her start as a staff pharmacist at CVS Health, after which she spent two years as a clinical pharmacist at Enclara Pharmacia, where she helped the company improve its delivery of care for patients in hospice treatment.

In 2014, she joined Synchrony Healthcare Communications as an associate director. Throughout her career, she has provided smart and strategic guidance on a range of complex therapeutic areas, including chronic pain pharmacologic and device therapy, gastrointestinal and endocrinologic disorders, heart failure, obesity, narcolepsy and solid organ transplantation.
