MWW has appointed Matthew Holland, former executive director of public health solutions at WebMD, as SVP of its corporate health practice, the firm said Monday morning.

Holland’s duties will extend to Washington, DC, where he will support clients on legislative issues. His responsibilities in New York leading the practice will include “counseling clients in the healthcare sector on the implementation and execution of corporate and financial communications programs,” the agency said in a statement.

Holland said his experience gives him the ability to grasp many nuances from a consumer’s perspective in the healthcare space, as well as digital and public policy.

He added that moving from WebMD to a PR agency isn’t a drastic change, because both work on issues such as messaging, communications, and dissemination.

“You can ‘insert client name here,’ and they’re all talking about the same stuff – what changes are happening at the federal and state levels and how they are impacting their model,” said Holland.

Before WebMD, Holland was executive director of Medscape, group publisher and director of Advanstar Life Sciences, director of business development at TynanGroup, and VP of the New Jersey Retail Merchants Association, according to his LinkedIn account.

He started his career at MWW as a legislative assistant.
