West Virginia University’s four health profession schools have adopted new rules governing relations with industry vendors.
Under the new code, faculty, staff and students at the Robert C. Byrd Health Sciences Center may not accept gifts or meals from industry reps. All CME must comply with ACCME rules, and paid speaking engagements are allowed but must be disclosed. Dr. Christopher Colenda, WVU chancellor for health sciences, said the Code of Conduct is designed to establish best practices for dealing with potential and real conflicts of interests with industry reps but is not intended to prevent active collaboration with industry.
