The idea of an infinite playlist in your pocket is old news — but thanks to Dr. Sumbul Desai and the Apple Watch, people now have an EMT team on their wrists. Desai has played a huge role in bringing this technology to the masses. Under her watch — pun intended — Apple has expanded its health offerings beyond heart rate monitoring and periodic reminders to stand up. The most recent version of the Apple Watch operating system includes mental health features (it gives users the option of tracking moods and emotions) and a focus on eye health (presumably reminding users to look away from their phones). Desai is also an eager collaborator: Over the course of her career, she has worked with top health-tech innovators at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, the American Heart Association and Johns Hopkins University. She is also a clinical associate professor in Stanford University’s department of medicine.
