The American Academy of Family Physicians promoted its longtime head of graduate medical education Perry Pugno, MD, to VP for education. In the new role, he will oversee all organizational activities related to medical education and CME, including CME curriculum development, production and accreditation and regulations.
Pugno will focus on re-applying for ACCME accreditation in 2013 and will direct AAFP’s CME enterprise, which is expected to generate more than $10.7 million in revenue during the current fiscal year, the group said in a statement. CME division director Mindi McKenna, PhD, will be among Pugno’s nearly 60 reports.
A general practitioner and ER doc by training, Pugno has directed AAFP initiatives related to medical school and residency education since 1999.
Based at AAFP headquarters in Leawood, KS, the new VP will also help direct organization-wide strategy and policy-development activities in addition to participating in the activities of the AAFP board.
