Several leadership organizations sent a letter to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services urging it to exempt CME from a proposed rule related to the Physician Payments Sunshine Act so that faculty honoraria for accredited/certified CME activities and commercial support would be excluded from mandatory reporting requirements.
The letter describes the role of ACCME’s Standards for Commercial Support: Standards to Ensure the Independence of CME Activities in preventing commercial influence in CME.
The signatories included the ACCME, the Alliance for Continuing Education in the Health Professions and seven other CME organizations.
