Marvel Comics, Allegheny Health Network and agency partner Doner have teamed up to create “The True Nurse Stories.” The comic book, which debuted last week, taps real-life experiences of nurses in the health system as its source material.
“Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, we have been in awe of the courage and resourcefulness of our nurses, who put their own health at risk to care for these vulnerable patients,” Claire Zangerle, AHN’s chief nurse executive, said in a statement. “We hope that in seeing themselves as real Marvel Comics superheroes, they can take a moment to look back in pride on their exceptional work and compassion during an exceptionally difficult time for our communities.”
The comic book will be distributed at AHN hospitals as well as at recruitment events. The “True Nurse Stories” launch was accompanied by a video featuring the children of AHN nurses.
