Deerfield Agency has hired Eric Steckelman to serve as EVP, business development, the company announced Wednesday.

Steckelman will head Deerfield’s business development, marketing and strategic growth efforts. He will focus on building partnerships, the agency said.

Steckelman joins Deerfield from Medisafe, where he served as VP of business development. Before his Medisafe tenure, he was VP of business development and communications at Syneos Health.

Steckelman arrives with a wealth of experience across several therapeutic areas. He has launched brands through the business lifecycle, including during his time as the U.S. and global medical marketing advisor in Boehringer Ingelheim’s cardiovascular medicine division. He has also held roles at Level Ex and Evoke Giant.

“Eric’s appointment marks an exciting chapter for Deerfield Agency as we continue to expand our capabilities and drive innovation in the healthcare and life sciences industries,” said Deerfield managing partner Frank Burrell in a statement.

“With a proven track record in new business growth and development, along with expertise in assessing market trends and opportunities, we are confident that Eric will play a key role in deepening and expanding client relationships and broadening visibility for the agency,” Burrell added in the statement.

At the end of last year, Deerfield appointed its first chief creative officer, Sam Cannizzaro, who joined from Elevate Healthcare. Cannizzaro was tasked with leading the agency’s creative strategy and vision.

According to the 2023 MM+M Agency 100, Deerfield grew revenue 40% in 2022, to $61.1 million from $43.5 million in 2021. Head count rose from 88 to 140.

Steckelman referred to the agency’s recent growth in the statement, noting that he is “really excited to partner with the entire Deerfield team and continue to build on the agency’s success to date.”

“Deerfield has grown significantly, a testament to the team’s commitment and ability to identify and solve marketing challenges,” he added. “With a real focus on insights, story and measurement, and broad capabilities across healthcare marketing, advertising and communications, we are well positioned for continued growth and impact.”
