The number of award entries submitted to the Lions Health creativity festival taking place later this month in Cannes, France, increased by 30%, festival organizers said.

About 1,800 entries have been submitted to Lions Health this year—1,430 entries for the health and wellness category and 432 entries for the pharma category.

The year will be the second time the Lions Health festival, which focuses on healthcare marketing and creativity, will take place. The Cannes Lions’ organizers added the two-day Lions Health event in 2014 at the request of executives at some of the largest global healthcare agency networks.

“The request came from industry,” Louise Benson, Lions Health’s festival director, told MM&M earlier this month. “They felt not enough of the content and the discussion and the context were analogous to their clients.”

At last year’s event, the judges for the pharma category declined to award a Grand Prix, the festival’s top prize. Agency leaders have said that the pharma entries will likely be stronger this year but still may not warrant a Grand Prix.
