Everyday Health announced Monday that Michael du Toit will join the digital media company as president. Du Toit was previously the global group co-president for Publicis Healthcare Communications Group. Publicis Healthcare announced that Alexandra Von Plato will now be group president for North America, having previously served as co-president with du Toit.

Du Toit told MM&M that he has been in talks with Everyday Health CEO Ben Wolin over the past few months and decided to join due to the company’s “unique set of capabilities and assets” and his belief that the company is well-positioned to “take advantage of the dynamic communications landscape.”

He says his new role will be “managing and directing the strategy for the consumer and professional businesses, including product, editorial, sales and sales development. My scope includes guiding Everyday Health’s strategic direction and growth and ensuring that the company remains a nimble, innovative market leader,” he said.

Du Toit was a founding member of Digitas. The agency was acquired by Publicis for $1.3 billion in 2007. Prior to his time at Digitas, du Toit was VP of marketing at GlaxoSmithKline and a director of advertising and promotion for Boehringer Ingelheim.

In his new role he hopes to strengthen the company’s relationships with pharmaceutical and biotech companies. “I look forward to working hard to contribute and deliver continued growth of Everyday Health’s consumer and healthcare professional businesses.”

Everyday Health also announced that Paul Slavin, the company’s chief operating officer, has decided to leave the company, with du Toit assuming his responsibilities. Slavin will stay on as EVP, special advisor to the CEO through the end of March.
