Ysabel Duron brings multiple valuable perspectives to the table as a patient advocate: She started out her career as a broadcast journalist, survived cancer and has since led patient activism in and around the Latino community. Throughout her professional journey Duron has worked to develop screening, education, psychosocial and culturally relevant initiatives for cancer patients. She founded the Latino Cancer Institute in 2017 to boost Latino voices in the cancer community as well as to spur policy changes that address the disparity in Latino cancer mortality. Duron’s work has paid off: In February, President Biden appointed her to the National Cancer Advisory Board. As healthcare innovation accelerates, Duron ranks among the few health equity advocates who are truly endeavoring to ensure that support actually reaches the marginalized communities who need it.
