VML Health unveiled some key creative leadership changes affecting its C-suite Monday morning.

Firstly, Mel Routhier will take over as the lead for VML Health’s global creative team in the role as global chief creative officer for health and wellness.

Routhier previously served as chief creative officer at VMLY&R Chicago, a title she will retain as part of this personnel move to join the VML Health senior leadership team. In this position, she has worked with blue-chip health clients like Abbott, Walgreens and Pfizer.

She was also the jury president for the Health and Wellness category at the 2023 Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity.

“The opportunity to harness the creative fire power for our health clients was irresistible. Having built a strong cultural connection with our health teams already, I know we will be an unstoppable force,” she said in a statement. “It’s an honor to be part of one of the most comprehensive health offerings in the world and we don’t intend to let a moment slip by without appreciating our teams, our clients, or the patient communities we serve.”

Secondly, Natxo Diaz will serve as global head of health craft, which was the same role he was named to at VMLY&R Health in June 2023, months prior to its merger with Wunderman Thompson in the fall.

Diaz, who splits his time between the agency’s European offices and New York City, was also recently named a 2024 MM+M 40 Under 40 honoree.

Finally, Khalid Latif will serve as global executive creative director for Europe at the agency. Based in London, Latif has been at VML since April 2022 after previous stints at Weber Shandwick and Publicis Health and Grey Group.

The latter two executives will work with Routhier to oversee the creative operations in North America, Europe and APAC.

This represents yet another development in terms of how VML will look post mega-merger. As two of the largest medical marketing companies, VMLY&R Health and Wunderman Health both brought more than $225 million in revenues together.

“Having a team with such established health and FMCG creative brand management experience was important as we move forward with our connected vision for our health teams,” Debbi Vandeven, global chief creative officer at VML, said in a statement. “Health lies at the heart of all our lives and creativity in healthcare communications cannot be siloed. Our new healthcare creative team has a complete 360 perspective and I have no doubt that they will continue to deliver incredible award-winning work to all our clients.”
