WebMD hopes to extend its professional network reach with the launch of a Medscape iPhone application. The app will become available during the last week of May, or in early June, according to a WebMD spokesperson.
The app will provide docs with a free mobile drug reference database and drug interaction checker, as well as Medscape’s specialty-focused professional news. Medscape CME will be available as well, with mobile CME activities and credits automatically tracked in the Medscape CME tracker.
Regarding the potential for targeted marketing opportunities, WebMD’s spokesperson said: “We are focused right now on putting quality applications onto mobile devices, and as we build a mobile user community, commercial opportunities will follow.”
XM radio station ReachMD launched a CME application for the iPhone last November, providing on-demand XM radio CME content and testing direct to the mobile device.
