WebMD has announced plans to acquire QualityHealth.com, and its parent, Marketing Technology Solutions, for $50 million.

The acquisition, announced in a statement September 15, will “add performance-based marketing programs to WebMD’s extensive product portfolio and expands the breadth of its offerings to the biopharmaceutical and healthcare markets,” said the statement. The acquisition is expected to close in 30 days.

“Adding QualityHealth.com…will enable us to deliver even greater value to our coustomers and capture a larger share of overall consumer marketing budgets,” said Wayne Gattinella, CEO, WebMD, in the statement.

In June, Wall Street analysts reported that WebMD was bringing in fewer advertising dollars and facing competition from smaller, similar websites. Most recently, WebMD announced a partnership with Euro RSCG Life parent HAVAS for a new virtual convention booth offering healthcare professionals a 3D interactive experience online.
