Citrus Health Group scooped up full-service medical communications company MedLogix Communications on Monday.

The San Diego-based boutique strategic health consultancy backed by investment firm NaviMed Capital bought the more than two-decade-old comms shop that provides scientific and medical communications, meetings and events services to clients in the pharma, biotech and medical device sectors.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed in a company press release.

As part of the transaction, Citrus Health Group’s chief operating officer John ‘Zeke’ Czekanski will transition to the position of chief commercial officer. Czekanski is a co-founder of the firm and a Fishawack Health alum.

“We are excited to add MedLogix to the Citrus Health family,” Citrus Health Group CEO Neil Matheson said in a statement. “Sue and Jeff have built a talented team of scientific communications, medical affairs, and meeting and event professionals and they have an enviable reputation for high quality scientific strategy and excellence in tactical implementation.”

Joining the Citrus Health executive board is Sue Sessa, who will succeed Czekanski as chief operating officer, and Jeff Debs, PharmD who will become EVP of medical consulting.

“Citrus Health provides an exciting opportunity for the MedLogix team to join a diverse group of experienced industry professionals dedicated to excellence within a rapidly growing integrated medical affairs and market access business;’ commented Sue Sessa. “We will bring additional expertise to Citrus which will expand the group’s offerings while also gaining access to areas of expertise such as market access to meet the expanding needs of our present and future clients.”

Since its launch in the spring with 85 employees, Citrus Health Group has sought to make an impact in the medical comms and market access spaces. Late last year, the company acquired Prescott Medical Communications Group, along with Citrus Scientific and Citrus Market Access to serve as foundational organizations.

In an interview with MM+M earlier this year, Matheson said the company will generate $18 million in revenue this year, which will be split 50-50 between Prescott and the two Citrus business lines.

Citrus Health Group also announced the MedLogix acquisition months after hiring Nicole Laird to serve as chief people and culture officer. In the role, Laird will report to Matherson.
